Talents, skills and ambitons in Vathy camp

Stories

Talents. Skills. Ambitions. What we’re witnessing day after day on the ground is more than just dreams.

Meet Mohammed and Waleed. Two Syrian brothers and community volunteers in Vathy Camp. Their new journey started seven months back, not knowing the shore they were going to land on. They seeked a place that was safe enough to start a new journey, with an opportunity to build a life and career.

"I want to make my dream and my mother’s dream come true and help the ones in need"

Mohammed's dream as a child was to follow in his mother's steps and become a doctor. Today his plan is to continue studying. “I want to make my dream and my mother’s dream come true and help the ones in need.”

"The day will come where I will be running my own business. I promise it to myself the day I came here”

Waleed already finished his studies and has been working as an electrician. He loves it and would like to keep on working in the same field. “The day will come where I will be running my own business. I promise it to myself the day I came here.”

They’re currently both focusing on improving their language skills by attending English classes in the camp and by practicing it together with us and with other friends. Hand in hand we’ve been working with them as well as with all other community volunteers everyday. Cultivating a community where they can show and develop their skills. A warm place where they feel loved and appreciated.

These talents are striving to give more to this community. Imagine what they would give beyond the boundaries of a camp. Having them among us is not just a win. It’s a blessing.
