In 2016, Dutch initiative Whocares released the statement shirt titled ‘Marhaban’. Husam Sh, a Syrian refugee who relocated to the Netherlands, designed the t-shirt. The intention of the shirt was to start a movement with a clear and heartfelt message: all refugees are welcome in Europe. By wearing the Marhaban t-shirt you show you embrace everyone, including refugees. It’s an outstanding way to make the world a bit friendlier.

Worldwide, most people now just embrace their personal situation in their own environment. It’s logical because this time of COVID-19 gives stress, uncertainty and less freedom. Thus, for many of us the refugee crisis feels far away from home. Even the situation on Lesvos is fairly considered too far for many Europeans.

As Movement On The Ground we wanted to do something about this: bring the crisis closer to people's hearts in a positive way. That's why we have teamed up with like-minded, action takers Who Cares to re-launch the statement t-shirt.

With the Marhaban t-shirt it's easy to spread a message in a positive and easy way. The shirt says "Marhaban": welcome in Arabic. By wearing this shirt we say welcome to all lives impacted by the refugee crisis. We say welcome to acting in solidarity with and finding sustainable solutions for both refugees and host communities.

The t-shirt, completely sustainably and fairly produced in Portugal, costs €25 with the returns from every shirt donated to our mission at Movement On The Ground. We encourage you to purchase a shirt and while you're at it, motivate your network to do the same.

You can either do this through word of mouth or how about leveraging your social media? We challenge you to take a photo of yourself in the Marhaban shirt, share your motivation for joining the Movement with #marhabanshirt and tag three friends to do the same.

You can buy the t-shirt via this link.
