About us

We are Movement On The Ground, a foundation responding to a humanitarian crisis affecting the innocent men, women and children forced from their homes due to climate change, poverty and war. Movement On The Ground sets a new blueprint for humanitarian help worldwide.

We are a group of independent business people, creatives and companies who were each, in their own way, touched by the crisis and called to action. Whether it was because of the national debate in the Netherlands, the effect of the refugee crisis locally, the immediate response to the arrival of refugees at Amsterdam Central station, or the first-hand experience of visiting Lesvos, all of us were called to do more and give more. The simple act of giving inspired us to think bigger!

Our five founders

Through social media we were able to connect with those on the ground and build a relationship with the groups working to ensure safe passages on Lesvos. Our personal networks were ignited to see where direct help was needed in order to supply a direct response.

In November 2015, we, as a collective, were able to donate much-needed items to help winter-proof some of the transit camps on the island. We donated lights, heaters, tents and crowd management assets as well as items to support the medical and search & rescue teams on the coast, and that was just the beginning. Over the years, we have initiated many more projects to help the current crisis on Lesvos, and now on Samos, too.

While we have been successful in initiating various projects to help improve the lives of the people residing in our campUSes, as well as help create a calmer atmosphere for Lesvos and Samos locals, we still have a long way to go!
