About us

Founded by a group of independent business people and creatives who were touched by the European refugee crisis and called to action, Stichting Movement On The Ground has evolved into a team of like-minded individuals determined to bring change to humanitarian field. We believe every human being forced from their home has the right to a dignified reception. We envision a global Movement of people, organisations and governing bodies ensuring every human being forced from their home receives a dignified reception.

We stand with and for people on the move. We build bridges with the local communities where we work. We acknowledge the dire circumstances, but remain optimistic about the positive change that can be achieved. We ensure refugee environments are safe, healing and enabling using our Camp to campUs philosophy. We work shoulder-to-shoulder with all stakeholders, including the local host community, governing bodies and other organisations.

We want to change the public perception of what it means to be a 'refugee'. We want to drive sustainable change with and for people on the move. Ultimately, we want to help pave the way for people on the move to integrate into their future society.

We are still small and we don't have all the answers, but we aim to fill in the humanitarian gaps wherever it is most needed.

THE CAMP TO CAMPUS PHILOSOPHY

At the core of the Movement On The Ground mission is the ‘Camp to campUs’ philosophy. What started as a model demonstrating how to transform a refugee camp into a safe, healing and enabling environment, evolved into a mindset and a way of working.

THE MOVEMENT MINDSET

We do what needs to be done to create sustainable change with and for people on the move. We therefore apply the Movement mindset:

  • HUMAN-CENTRED: We always put people at the core of our decision making. We have a ground-up approach.

  • BOLD: We seek opportunities rather than see challenges. We dare to challenge the status quo.

  • HUMBLE: We approach people, situations and circumstances with kindness, dignity and respect.

  • HANDS-ON: We are pro-active, with an anywhere and anyhow mindset.

  • BUILD BRIDGES: Between people and communities, between those on the move and those seeking to provide support.
