Five Movement Moments: Rusl, Trainers, Christmas Tree, Kalostea and a Sunny Moment

Stories

Looking back over the last week and a few moments of connectivity we shared with the communities we work with and for on the Greek islands.

On Chios this week, we met again with Rusl, one of the Iraqi female football players who is very passionate about sports... But also about art! Rusl is currently in the process of creating a few canvas in an effort to add more colours to the community space in Vial camp.

This week on Samos, with thanks to an amazing initiative by visiting volunteer Paula, we were able to distribute trainers to all the children taking part in our Sports Programme in RIC Zervou. All of them received quality trainers so they can enjoy the daily activities with their friends.

Back to Chios where this amazing maintenance team leader, Ali Omar from Sudan, stepped up to enlighten the community with some Christmas decoration with the help of fellow residents. Ali Omar joined our team of community volunteers over a year ago, helping with cleaning, washing and maintenance.

On Chios this week, the community celebrated the opening of a new indoor community space - also named Kalostea! No matter the harsh winter conditions, these residents will continue to connect and share more of these beautiful moments together whislt having a warm cup of tea.On

On Lesvos, we shared a warm moment with these lovely residents. Sahrab, Sam and Mohammad from Afghanistan who, after a rainy week, took the opportunity to enjoy some moments of connectivity under the sun.

Not everyone has the same opportunities. That is why we continue to stand in solidarity with these people on the move on the Greek islands. These are some of the activities and programmes we run together with and for these communities in an effort to transform refugee camps into safe, healing and enabling environments. By starting a fundraiser on our Kentaa platform, you too can contribute to our community-led projects including; chai distribution, tailoring, education, sports and waste management.
