Five Movement Moments

Stories

Looking back over the last week and a few moments of connectivity we shared with many of the community volunteers and residents on the Greek islands.

1. Our SPACES program continues in RIC Lesvos in partnership with our colleagues When We Band Together. Last week, over ten special children have been gathering in small groups around a series of interactive and educational games. This program enables the children with special needs to exercise, play and learn safely whilst offering greater connectivity for their parents too.

2. Last week, together with over 20 girls and boys from RIC Lesvos, we went out for our first outdoor sports session at the Spanos field on Lesvos, followed by other sessions on a daily basis. Spanos is another space where they get to play and enjoy their time in just a different environment.

3. Also last week on Lesvos, ten of our Digital Learning Lab (DLL) students received their certificates after having completed all their Basic Computer Skills classes taught by our lovely volunteer teachers Hussain and Hashmat.

4. Last week we also carried on with the 'Online Job Readiness’ project we'd started piloting together with Nyenrode Business Universiteit. Up to ten students - all volunteers translators - have been attending additional SkillsBuild sessions under the supervision of Kostas, our Digital Learning Lab coordinator on Lesvos.

5. On Chios, our amazing team of community volunteers continues to look after the whole community's needs. Over 25 volunteers have been stepping up daily to collect, dispose of the waste and clean the wash and toilet facilities in Vial camp.
