Five Movement Moments: Winter, Football, Community Space, Flower Boxes and

Stories

Looking back over the last week and a few moments of connectivity we shared with the communities we work with and for on the Greek islands.

This week we launched our Winter 2021 campaign. Whilst many of us have plenty of ways to stay warm, thousands of refugees don't. Let's stand in solidarity with people on the move by going out without your coat. With this action, raise money to help winter-proof the refugee camps on the Greek islands. Your can create your personal fundraising profile here and start raising money to help us take the cold out of the camp.

This week in RIC Zervou took place an amazing football tournament on the newly built Cruyf Court - by The Cruyff Foundation. Eight multinational teams of participants were created in a way to promote inter-communal cooperation and further strengthen connectivity within the community.

Also on Samos, the community space in RIC Zervou has been taking shape! Designed and constructed by our amazing community volunteers, a new tennis table was added to Kalostea. This space continues to enable the residents to connect, play and have fun. 🏓

This week Miranda - from The Cruyff Foundation - and Jessica - from Heutink Foundation and MOTG's advisory board member - joined us on Samos. During their stay, they've been helping in every way they could. They also stepped up to construct these beautiful boxes, adding not only colours, but also flowers to the community.

This week on Chios, our team of community volunteers have been adding some colours to the newly transformed sports field in Vial camp. Thanks to support from Dutch celebrity Sterre Koning and your contribution, we were able to raise enough funds to transform this sports field into a more suitable place for the residents to play safely. "The beautiful game unites the world" was their motto to paint their country's flag. Sports continues to unite all people from different countries and cultures!

Not everyone has the same opportunities. That is why we continue to stand in solidarity with these people on the move on the Greek islands. These are some of the activities and programmes we run together with and for these communities in an effort to transform refugee camps into safe, healing and enabling environments. By starting a fundraiser on our Kentaa platform, you too can contribute to our community-led projects including; chai distribution, tailoring, education, sports and waste management.
